Born in Rome, Italian Singer Songwriter Giulia spent the majority of her childhood travelling the world with her Polo Player Father and successful fashion entrepreneur mother. The hybridity of her music is attributed to her early immersion in different cultures, and she was perhaps influenced most strongly by her time spend in Argentina as shown through the South American Sounds and Vibes that frequently crop up in her work.
We sat down with her to talk about her newest single, what we can expect from her in the future, and what inspires her as an artist.
Hello Giulia! Can you tell us a little bit about how your year has been?
Hello! I have had an incredible year. I recorded my new album and it feels great to have that down. I feel like the tracks on the album really represent who I am as a person and a artist right now, they are so real and raw for me.
You’ve just recently released ‘Trippin’ Out’, can you tell us a little bit about the single?
‘Trippin’ Out’ is, much like the rest of the album, about being free and having the freedom to express myself the way I wanted to. It is about doing what you want to do and not being afraid about what other people are going to say – a mantra I really tried to embrace with this album, and I really hope this message comes across.
What has been your highlight of 2018?
It would have to be recording at Abbey Road Studio. It was amazing to be in a place where so many amazing and influential artists have recorded before me. The experience I had there was so incredible and we created something really beautiful there.
Can you give us any hints about what you’re going to be up to in 2019….?
Well, I’m releasing my album and I would just love to do some live tour dates. I love performing live and I know I could have so much fun with these songs live. So I’m crossing my fingers for that….
How has your music evolved and changed as you have grown as an artist?
For me, my art and my music is so closely linked to who I am as a person and what I am feeling at that time – therefore as I evolve and grow my music does too. I feel as though I have grown up a lot since my last album and I have learnt a lot about myself, and I think you can sense this in the new tracks.
Whose music are you obsessed with at the moment?
Dua Lipa has my heart at the moment…….
Who is your dream duet partner?
Besides from Dua Lipa… Ha! Weirdly, I’ve always thought it would be fun to duet with Madonna?
And finally… What is your all-time favourite Christmas song?
It has to be ‘All I Want For Christmas Is You’ by Mariah Carey – it’s an absolute classic!
