A beloved primary school teacher has died after her car plunged off a cliff while she was camping over the long weekend.
Josephine Lancaster, a teacher at Mount Pleasant Primary School, was on holiday with her partner Ben Hall and friends at Toombon, 200km east of Melbourne.
She died on Saturday when she lost control of her 4WD on Donellys Creek Road and went over a cliff.
Two passengers, a man and woman, were taken to hospital with minor injuries.
Mr Hall paid tribute to his girlfriend on social media.
“Rest in peace Josephine. You were honestly the most amazing, loving, caring person I have ever met,’ he wrote.
“You made me feel so special and always put the biggest smile on my face, just seeing you so happy lit up my whole day.
“You were taken away from me way too soon and I’m so sorry you didn’t deserve it, fly high angel you will always be in my heart.”
According to the Herald Sun it took crew members from Admiral Towing five hours to recover the wreckage on Sunday.
Marcus Halberstram was among several passers-by who raced into the creek to help.
“How two people walked away from the car is nothing short of a miracle,” he told the newspaper.
“I activated my EPIRB beacon, which summoned helicopters, ambulances and SES.
“Emergency services did a phenomenal job, our community is lucky to have these people.”
