Real estate Sydney: Paul Keatings lawyer snaps up $22m harbourside penthouse

A prominent legal eagle has swooped on a $22m sub-penthouse in an exclusive new harbourfront development, complete in a year’s time.

And it’s in the same project, the “Billyard Ave” development in Elizabeth Bay, where a famous yachtie splashed out $30m on the penthouse.

Chris Coudounaris, the lawyer and Paul Keating confidante, bought the whole-floor 400sqm residence in Billyard Ave development in Elizabeth Bay, directly opposite businessman Lindsay Fox’s iconic Boomerang mansion that’s secretly on the market with hopes of $100m.

Billionaire Packer’s Horizon apartment up for sale

On the weekend it was revealed that Matt Allen, the former banker who won the Sydney to Hobart Yacht Race four times, had paid close to $30m for the 430sqm penthouse, an apartment record in the east, but the sub-penthouse purchaser has been a closely guarded secret since the exchange some time ago.

The agent, Jason Boon, who made both sales with his Richardson & Wrench Potts Point colleague Andrew Hoggett, refused to confirm Coudounaris was the sub-penthouse buyer, leaving that to other sources.

The lawyer and wife Antonia sold their Bellevue Hill home for $15m to David Little, the co-founder of cideo slot gaming company Lightning Box Games in May. And they later offloaded a Potts Point terrace for $10.6m, which has cost just $25,000 in 1970, to Susan Lane, wife of David Lane, who is the former Americas chief executive at asset manager Perpetual.

The biggest concerns for renters right now

It’s not as if the Coudnarises are downsizing on quality. Their new sub-penthouse is six-star, developed by Philippe Remond, of P3 Living, and Peter Walsh, from North East Corp, with interiors by SJB.

The development consists of nine north-facing four-bedders with large balconies and views of the harbour.

They’re described as being house-sized Art Deco themed. Of the six that remain, ranging in size from 350sqm-to 400sqm, prices start at $16m for a garden apartment up to $22m for another of the sub-penthouses.
