'Ripped' Dimitar Berbatov did not talk to Tottenham teammates but one look summed up elite aura

Dimitar Berbatov was a man of few words, but didn't need to speak to let his teammates know what he was thinking.

That's according to talkSPORT Drive co-host and former Premier League star Darren Bent, who played alongside the Bulgarian multiple times in his career.

Bent was one of four strikers playing for Spurs in the 2007/08 season, with Berbatov, Jermain Defoe and Robbie Keane also at the north London side's disposal.

Spurs went on to finish 11th that season, despite both Berbatov and Keane both getting 15 league goals each. However, Bent insists the former was one of the best players he ever played with at Spurs and Fulham.

"It was very rare those two went a game without scoring," Bent told talkSPORT Drive when discussing his first season at White Hart Lane.

"Berbatov's touch. You've never seen anything like it. Oh my God, you couldn't get the ball off him. What's funny as well, everyone had to pass him the ball.

"He had that kind of aura where he'd give you a look if you didn't pass it and everyone would go 'oof'."

Bent continued: "He's the best [I played with] along with [Luka] Modric. But first touch, Berbatov is the best.

"You can give him the ball in any scenario and he's stronger than you think, his first touch is perfect and I'm talking about goalkeepers smashing it up in the air as high as it goes."

But despite being able to communicate with just a look, Bent says Berbatov hardly ever spoke.

"He didn't really talk full stop really," he said. "I didn't understand why, certainly at Fulham more so. At Spurs, Keane tried to get it out of him, Ledley [King] tried to get it out of him.

"At Fulham, we were in the canteen and there's four guys on the table and there's two seats spare, or there's a table over there on its own, he'd come upstairs and go and sit on his own.

"[Adel] Taarabt used to go 'Berba, come here!' and he'd say no, and sit on his own."

Asked whether Berbatov had good personality, or whether there was anything else Bent specifically remembered about him, he simply answered: "Ripped. Each pack, two inches."

Berbatov scored 23 goals in total in the 2007/08 season, netting 46 times in total in 102 appearances between 2006 and 2008 before his £30million move to Manchester United.
